The Renaissance: A Rebirth of Knowledge and Culture
The Renaissance, spanning the 14th to the 17th century, was a period of great cultural, artistic, political, and economic revival following the Middle Ages. Originating in Italy, the Renaissance spread across Europe, sparking a renewed interest in classical learning and ushering in an age of discovery.
Key figures of the Renaissance include:
- Leonardo da Vinci - The quintessential "Renaissance man," known for his art, inventions, and scientific studies.
- Michelangelo - Sculptor, painter, architect, and poet, famous for works like the Sistine Chapel ceiling.
- William Shakespeare - English playwright and poet, whose works are considered among the greatest in the English language.
- Nicolaus Copernicus - Astronomer who proposed a heliocentric model of the solar system, challenging long-held beliefs.
The Renaissance period saw advancements in art techniques, scientific inquiry, and philosophical thought that continue to influence our world today.
